What Can Teeth Whitening Treat? Intrinsic VS. Extrinsic Stains
Teeth whitening isn't a cure-all for every type of stain. Some stains are resistant to teeth whitening and can benefit from other forms of dentistry, such as veneers or dental crowns, to conceal the discoloration. There are two types of stains:
Intrinsic stains form from within the teeth, often by factors you can't control, such as dental trauma, medical conditions, and genetics. These stains are resistant to teeth whitening since they are internal.
Extrinsic stains are on the outside enamel layer of your tooth. These are caused by factors you can control, like what you eat and drink. Extrinsic stains are what respond well to teeth whitening measures.
What Causes Tooth Discoloration?
